A bit more about me
I like solving business problems using software as the main tool and automating solutions intelligently.
From humanist to developer: an accidental discovery
Before starting my career in software development, I began like many when they are about to leave high school: not knowing very well which path to take. I graduated with a humanities background and my options included psychology or law. In the end, I chose programming after not getting the required score for other careers; it was the only option that really motivated me among the choices I had.
Months before starting my studies, I asked my cousin to teach me and give me a little head start on what this was all about. Those months hooked me. I started with Python and, although I didn't understand much and the concepts were 'complicated' to identify, I managed to put together my first terminal scripts. Over time, I got more hooked. I wasn't just interested in doing well in my courses; I stayed up late, wide awake, out of pure curiosity to see how far I could build. My mind was full of questions about how to build websites, how to make them look good, and how a site was deployed. I was like a kid learning everything.
A year later, I could already build good websites and manage databases. I felt proud to see that all that effort, knowledge, and curiosity translated into something tangible, into a skill that was developing.
And then came the real challenges. After leaving university and entering the workforce full-time in local companies in Antofagasta, I had to think hard and solve things I often had no idea about. I had to learn to figure out on my own how to move forward with the best solution, since that was my job and the outcome depended entirely on me. That is how I acquired the tools, experience, and skills I have today.
Today, I still have a lot to learn and thousands of things I haven't done yet. I hope I keep facing situations that force me to improve, because it's fun to see how you grow after the stress and demands of each challenge.
I really like seeing the impact I can make with what I know how to do, and how this skill continues to grow, which, with effort and passion, has led me to be someone who knows how to solve problems for companies that need to automate or develop something.
And no, this is not written with AI.
Beyond my work
I currently live in Antofagasta, Chile. When I'm not working, I enjoy watching news about programming or video games, reading about topics of interest (lately I've been reading a lot), and spending time with my sausage dog. She is the best dog in the world (though all owners think the same), and she learns very quickly what I teach her... or maybe I'm just very good at teaching her.
Also, I spend part of my time learning a bit of everything. Not everything is code; there are many other areas I consider important for my development, such as English and finance. Especially in the era we are in with AI, I believe the best thing is to always keep learning, a mindset I probably wouldn't have if I hadn't met this industry.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading it all. ❤️
